Welcome

Teal Paws™

Your body holds wisdom.

Your dog holds space.

And you hold the power to heal.

Trauma-informed mindfulness and nervous system support for survivors of interpersonal sexual violence - guided by the relationship you already share with your dog.

Welcome, I'm so glad you're here.

When Surviving Becomes Your Normal

If you've lived through sexual assault...

You already know it can change how you experience almost every part of life.

You may constantly scan for danger.

Struggle to trust yourself.

Feel disconnected from your body.

Have trouble sleeping.

Find relationships exhausting.

Wonder why your nervous system never seems to settle.

Or simply miss the person you once thought you might become.

Sometimes there isn't even a "before."

Wherever you find yourself today...

You are not alone.

At Teal Paws™ we understand the impact sexual assault can have on your mind, body and soul.

Our experiences - and the ways we've learned to survive them -

can make life feel extra hard.

So we begin by becoming curious about how your mind, body, and nervous system learned to survive.

Because understanding often creates room for compassion.

And, compassion creates room for change.

We believe everyone possesses innate capacities for awareness, regulation, resilience, connection, play and joy.

Trauma - and the adaptions we develop in response to them - influence how accessible those capacities feel, but they don't erase them.

At Teal Paws™,  we help people create the conditions where those capacities become easier to access through mindfulness, nervous system awareness, and the supportive relationship you already share with your dog.

We heal in relationship.

We Begin Somewhere Different

Every person - and every dog - is inherently whole, resourceful and connected.

Understanding trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD and the ways our nervous systems adapt is an important part of healing.

Trauma can cause huge disconnect - from self, others and the world around us.

Humans and dogs are built for connection. So we also look at the relationship that's right there, in this moment, beside us - our dog.

Not as service dog, nor as an ESA but simply the dog that is beside us. Honoring their own sovereignty and agency while reclaiming our own.

Learning mindfulness, nervous system regulation, emotional awareness and somatic practices. Individually and together.

Because healing doesn't happen through force.

It happens through safety.

Through practice.

Through relationship.

And one ordinary moment at a time... you begin to live more fully within the life that's already here.

Why Your Dog Matters

Healing Through Relationship

If you have ever wondered why you feel different when you're with your dog... You're not imagining it.

Maybe you feel calmer.

Maybe more connected.

Maybe safer.

Maybe just more like yourself.

The relationship feels different.

Not because dogs are perfect.

Not because they never experience fear or stress.

Their attention naturally returns to the present moment. They recover after excitement. They rest when they're tired. They remain curious. And perhaps most importantly...they continue to offer us the chance to be in a relationship.

To notice ourselves. To notice them. To notice the relationship between us.

Sometimes our dogs mirror our tension.

Sometimes they remind us to rest.

Sometimes they invite us to play.

Sometimes they simply stay beside us while we practice staying present.

They give us the space and time to practice . Not just during a 50 minute appointment on Tuesday. But during breakfast. On a walk. While waiting at the door. Curled beside us on the couch.

Healing has the opportunity to unfold in ordinary moments because life gives us opportunities to practice every day.

To slow down.

To become curious.

To notice our thoughts, emotions, bodies and surroundings.

The relationship with our dogs becomes a place where awareness grows. And awareness is where change begins.
